Globalwarming Awareness2007 - World Heritage
World Heritage committee is worried about the impacts of global warming on the world heritage sites all over the world. Global warming has also affected the world’s tallest mountain, the Himalayas and experts are worried about it In Nigeria, the dense forests of the Osun Sacred Grove, on the outskirts of the city of Osogbo, is already showing signs of depletion of the forests. |
It is considered very sacred by the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. In a way, it is the symbol of identity for this tribe. But now global warming is causing irreparable damage to this stretch of forests. The scientists have now included this grove in UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites. To keep the balance in our ecosystem forests such as Osun Sacred Grove should be saved from being destroyed Global warming has also impacted the Himalayas a lot. Global warming has caused the melting of Himalayan glaciers. The lakes on the foothills of this mountain range have swollen and this in turn is endangering the lives and livelihoods of the local population.
There is an urgent need to assess Nepal’s glacial lakes and it is imperative to stabilize the ones that are most at risk. Swelling of the Himalayan lakes has the potential to flood the low-lying areas of this tiny Himalayan nation. So, there is a great need to have a realistic assessment of how close these lakes are to bursting. The climate change in the Himalayas is threatening Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal. This national park has many endangered species. So, if nothing is done to check the impact of glacial melting in the Himalayas, these endangered species have the potential of becoming extinct.
Peru and Belize are two more countries who are bearing the brunt of climate changing due to global warming. Experts from these two Latin American countries have a unanimous opinion that the coral reefs of Belize and the glaciers of Peru need to be included in the Danger list as a result of climate change due to global warming.
January 2006 was the hottest January in the United States in 112 years. This proves that we are becoming victims of climate change due to global warming. This effect is not limited to the USA alone. This pattern can be observed in various countries worldwide.
There are many problems concerning the environment. Pollution, destruction of the rain forests, and consumption of all of our planet’s natural resources are just a few. Global warming is a problem which affects not just some people, but everything and everyone.
People must take action to stop global warming and must realize the severity of this problem before it is too late. The future depends on what we do now to slow the process of global warming. Global warming emerged as a major issue in the late 80’s.
